It poured yesterday. Some were comparing it to the rainstorm in December 6 months ago. My neighbors were experiencing severe flooding on their property due to the lack of proper drainage on a construction project to the south of us. It did not affect me directly until some of the water was diverted. The water was supposed to flow between our adjoining lots. However, because of elevation differences, the water followed my gravel walkway, dumped gravel into my creeping thyme lawn and flooded the small clearing under my fir trees. The water eventually made it into the wetlands without further problem. I have photos of what looks like a streambed flowing beside the house. I suppose I could have gotten upset, but then, I was not the one who had a flooded basement and garage.
I called the city and they forced the construction company to fix the drainage problem. Thank goodness the project still needed final approval. In the meantime, the neighbors and I discussed creating a drainage trench so that future runoff would not damage either of our properties. Yesterday was the test, and we have decided that adding additional drainage is no longer necessary.
